Flannel Friday

These weeks seem to be flying by, I cannot believe we are a month into the new year already. Anyone still keeping up with New Years resolutions? Or have you lost track in the busy day to day routines of your lives. Hopefully being back to class isn't draining people too much, just think spring break isn't too far away!

You're the greatest

I decided to have a very casual Friday and went with the comfort of a flannel. I layered this with a knit cardigan vest and some dark wash jeans, both from LOFT. Have a happy weekend & enjoy Super Bowl Sunday!

Festival Season Is Coming!!!

I don't have any plans to attend any musical festivals yet this spring or summer but that doesn't mean it won't happen. I am dreaming about weekends camping with friends, endless nights of good music, and plenty of raging. I've written many times before about this but there is just nothing like festival outfits because you can wear anything you want and embrace whatever style you'd never rock else where.

I wanted to share some of the best sites that may not be that well known for festival season attire that are definitely worth checking out!

This romper is available for $25!

This is a killer site that you can find some really unique pieces that aren't over priced!

The Midnight Moon Tee $64.

This is a very boho inspired clothing line that has some affordable things, and others that are more pricey. There site is full of great accessories too!

Very expensive brand but there necklaces are so beautiful, it would be an honor to own something so powerful and one of a kind.

The Highlighter Halo $20

Every girl loves a good headband. These are adorable handmade flower headbands that are sure to complete any festival outfit.

Ravenectar

Can't forget the boys, here's an awesome etsy shop for some trippy festival tees!

Black Milk Clothing---Again

I received my first pair of Black Milk leggings a few months ago and couldn't be more pleased with them! I posted a blog in September about this new Australian clothing line and would just like to share a little more of its awesomeness.

First off the tags that come with the clothing display all you need to know about your wonderful new purchase such as:

Thou Shalt...
  •  only wash by hand
  • dry in the shade
  • avoid rough surfaces
  • upload lots of pics to Facebook
  • be a hot little boss
Today I simply paired my Pretty Lights leggings with a black sweater and some uggs to keep cozy in this polar vortex.

How do you style your Black Milk pieces??

Bring Some Sunshine With You

Even with all this cold weather we've been having I've been trying to keep my positive attitude up, and boy let me tell you it is a struggle. To never want to leave your house and being forced to wear at least three layers to be comfortable is true torture. I never signed up to live in Alaska but it has been colder in State College, PA over the last week than it has been there.

In order to help keep up my spirits I've tried to break some colorful pieces out and bold prints to remind me that you can bring your own sunshine with you everyday. (even in negative temperatures )

This little one always adds some sunshine to my life too.

My Minnetonka Style

Well next to my Aztec print obsession I have an obsession with moccasins. And not just any kind of moccasin but Minnetonka moccasins. They are just the most comfortable, long-lasting pair of moccasin I have ever owned. If you have never tried a pair on it is highly suggested.

Here are the styles I currently own from Minnetonka:
One layer fringe boot*PERFECT FESTIVAL BOOT*
Newest addition to my collection, the fringe wedge moccasin.

Business Casual Done Right

Growing up in the generation I did, we tend to push the envelope when it comes to style trends and breaking the so called fashion rules that have been followed for far too long. However, I do see one giant problem with the girls my age when they are trying to enter the professional world and that is they don't always know what is necessarily business casual appropriate.

DONT'S:

  • Don't wear a skirt you would wear out to a frat to an interview.
  • If it's a top that has cleavage showing please put a camisole on underneath.
  • Heels should be appropriate for the office you're interviewing for, not a pair of stilettos.

DO:

  • Get advice from people who are currently working in the field you're interviewing for on how to dress.
  • Be classy without being matronly.
  • Spend the money you need in order to look good, it will pay off.

Today I am attending a Career Day function that South Hills is putting on for those of us getting ready to graduate. I wanted to dedicate this post to how thankful I am for going to a university with such a high job placement rate and will do everything in my power to get to the job of my dreams. My business casual look went something like this:

Throw A Beanie On It

Bad hair days seem to be haunting me in this cold weather. I never want to shower in the morning cause that requires blow drying and ain't nobody got time for that. If you've got curly, unruly hair like mine you know the struggle of making your mess look presentable in the morning after showering the night before. At last, there is one good thing about the cold weather that hit the Northeast, beanie season is in full effect.

I wasn't always a fan of hats but now I can't believe I haven't given them a try before, they're the perfect way to add an extra piece to your look and make you feel more put together.

A Lucky Girl In A Lucky World

Just how I feel sometimes, life couldn't get any sweeter and then something surprises me and makes it that much more magical. It's time to start going after my dreams and to be okay with failing on the way cause what fun would it be otherwise.

I am so blessed I received this beautiful new pair of boots for Christmas from a best friends mother. These are Stetson Cowgirl Boots and I am in love. She got them from her store Saddles Etc., in Centre Hall, PA. .

Girls Night Out

For those of your who aren't back to class and the daily grind of spring semester yet, I envy you. However, I'm making the best of it and going to live life to the fullest these last few months I am still in college! This weekend was a much anticipated time of letting loose and throwing the real world stuff aside for a few days.

I wanted to wear something that was still sexy and young but without freezing my ass off completely in the snowy weather we had this weekend in PA. So I settled on this:

My adorable niece loves to pose for photo shoots too

Body Con Skirt- American Apparel
Long Sleeve Open Back Top- Free People
Black Wedges- PacSun

Also can't forget that I paired this look with a parka and grey infinity scarf as well for extra warmth. What did you all do this weekend? I'd love to hear of anyone's outfits they wore out!!

Feeling Naked Without..

Today's post is dedicated to my favorite accessory: rings. I feel naked when I leave the house without my rings on, usually a minimum of four. I try to collect rings from all the places I get a chance to visit cause it reminds me of the trip. Also I am a sucker for interesting gem stones and turquoise.

Here are a few shots of some of my favorite rings:

Sundance Catalog is where the small blue topaz ring I wear almost everyday is from.
The turquoise ring I'm wearing here is from Saddles Etc., a horse tack and saddle shop in Centre Hall, Pennsylvania.
The knuckle ring is from Toni's Toe Rings
The large silver ring is from Silpada

From left to right: my class ring, a spoon ring, a Peruvian reverse-able ring, turquoise from Saddles Etc.

If I don't get my rings from traveling experiences and some amazing trade shows I've attended. I go to local shops like the Apple Tree on College Avenue in State College, Pennsylvania. That's where I got the large flower ring on my middle finger in this photo above.

Thrift shops are another amazing place to find cute jewelry at a good price.

Blue Topaz symbolizes the writers stone. My mom left me this message when she bought me that ring, "decide what type of job you want, hasa vibration allowing you to make clear and more specific decisions about your direction. Clearly express your hopes and wishes"

Turquoise has always been a symbol of protection, but in many ways. Not only does turquoise protect you from negative energies but also to help your own self control.

Gold is definitely something that takes me out of my comfort zone, but this is something I'm getting more used to. The two rings on my left hand are from Lucky. On my right hand those two rings were things I inherited from my Grandmother when she passed away. There is something so comforting about wearing loved ones jewelry after they have passed, it's a beautiful way to honor them.

Who Says You Can't Wear Maxi's In The Winter?

Looking at my dresses gives me envy of a warmer season but who says you can't rock them appropriately in the winter? Tights, cardigans, boots, and long sleeves can turn the perfect summer dress into an adorable wintery get up.

Today I wanted to try something a little different with layering a maxi dress I got at Connections over this past summer. I had a tank underneath and threw a sweater over the top to stay bundled. Along with this I wore some thin nude tights and grey boot socks over to pull in the color of the sweater. Boots help keep in so much warmth in these cold winter months I think they can go great with a dress.
